The Ultimate Act of Generosity

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:8)

We serve an incredibly generous God. Giving generously and sacrificially is part of His nature. He does it when He doesn’t have to. He does it when it doesn’t make sense. He does it when nothing is promised to Him in return.

God doesn’t give hand-me-downs and leftovers – He gives His absolute best. Romans 5:8 says that while we were His enemies, when we were disobedient and selfish and hard-hearted, God gave us His best. Not merely the earth, not an angel, not a great man – He gave us His Son Jesus. Think about that: “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” In fact this passage says that this act of unimaginable generosity is the definition of what true love is.

The fact is, you can’t be a follower of Jesus without being generous. When you follow someone you become more like them, not less. We are empowered, enabled, and commanded to be generous because He did the same for us. One day, before too long, we’ll stand before Him and explain what we did with what we were given.
He entrusts us with gifts so we can discover the unspeakable joy that comes from giving as we shine His light to a broken and hurting world.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus. We praise You for the gift of salvation. May I be generous because you modeled the ultimate act of generosity for me. Amen.
