“The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Anyone who’s spent considerable time with the Bible will tell you– you don’t read it…it reads you. One translation puts it this way—“it exposes us for what we really are.” It lays bare all of our ungodly motivations, weaknesses, unbelief, and hypocrisy. And sometimes that can hurt!
It’s sharp. It cuts deep. It was written thousands of years ago by 40 different men who lived in ancient, agricultural cultures in languages we can’t speak and yet it jumps off the page and slaps us in the face. It absolutely judges the thoughts and intentions of our hearts. God uses His word to uproot those things in our nature that are not of Him.
God wants you and I to dive into His Word every single day as He uses it to mold and shape us into who He’s created us to be. We can be sure that when we engage with the Scriptures, we’ll be challenged, called out, and inspired. And in the end, the result is completely worth it—a life transformed more and more into the likeness of Christ.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for your Word. We invite it to come pierce our hearts today. We lay our thoughts and intentions at your feet. Divide, reveal and expose those things we will abandon for the sake of your glory. Amen.
