“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. ” (Ephesians 3:10-11)
The Bible is pretty clear – when God has a plan, He gets it done. Proverbs 19:21 puts it this way: “You can make many plans but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” God has a plan of redemption and restoration for all the earth. The Church is God’s one plan to reverse the darkness we see everywhere around us. In Ephesians 3:10 Paul describes the role of the church as the vessel by which He tells His story to all of creation.
This word “manifold” means “multi-faceted” – like a rainbow. Not the ROYGBIV you learned in kindergarten with seven basic colors but the amazing, optical miracle you see when light passes through water. There are an infinite number of colors in the spectrum – as complex as the human eye is, you can’t come close to picking out and identifying all of them. Paul is saying God’s wisdom, His love, His person is so beautiful you can’t even begin to see it all. But the way He shows it to you…is through His church.
The church is not about buildings, facilities, the latest technology or the trendiest programs. It’s about people. People matter to God. We aren’t just called to attend church, we are called to be His Church. And when the church lives the way God designed it to function, God’s power is demonstrated to all His enemies. That’s powerful!
Prayer: Lord, Your manifold wisdom and presence through Your Church cause the enemy to flee. Help us to join in your mission of declaring hope and salvation to people through Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
